Socrates, great author, moralist and much-celebrated philosopher of the ancient Greek, was born in the year 469 B.C. in Athens, Greece. During the early years of his life he was a sculptor like his father, then also served as a heavy-armed foot soldier or hoplite. Battles he fought in included the battle of Deliurn, the siege of Potidaea and at Amphipolis. He was credited widely by many as being responsible for laying down the foundation for Western philosophy. He was a man of reason that enjoyed a life of educating and intriguing the senses of many through his many discussions of philosophy.
