Nelson Mandela, author and political member of Africa was born as Rolihlahla Mandela on July 18th of 1918 in Transkei, South Africa. Out of everyone else in his clan, he was the first to be schooled formally and is where his teacher gave him the name of Nelson. He studied law at Wits University, providing blacks with low-cost and free legal counsel. In 1942 he joined ANC, the African National Congress and in 1944 helped form the Youth League. In 1952 he participated in the Defiance Campaign and in 1955 the Congress of the People. He achieved many other feats that were motivational and in 1993 was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.
