The front man and creative force behind the band The Doors, Jim Morrison and his band mates came out of the Los Angeles club scene to become one of the top acts at the end of the 1960s. They had a string of hits, including Light My Fire, which caused quite a stir on the Ed Sullivan Show, from which they were banned. Morrison's destructive life both on and off stage created a mystique about him. Charismatic, dark and troubled, he died at the age of 27 of an apparent heart attack in Paris. Though he was known for his music, Morrison also authored several books of poetry during his life. He is ranked 47th on the list of 100 Greatest Singers of All Time released by Rolling Stone.
