Highly influential with entire generations of novelists, painters, philosophers, psychologists and social revolutionaries, Friedrich Nietzsche was known for challenging traditional Christianity and morality concepts of his time. His 19th century works focused on his beliefs in life and the realities of the world we live in rather than one we could not see. His philosophies about life affirmations addressed established and entrenched social doctrines that to him, drained life energies. Many consider this to be the beginning of existentialist philosophy. In later years he suffered a total mental breakdown, finally dying at the age of 1900 at the relatively young age of 56.
