George S. Patton - From a Family of Warriors
Posted April 16, 2012 by Robb Zerr
George S. Patton was one of the greatest military minds in history. He was fearless on the battlefield. Never one to shy away from danger, he insisted on carrying out his plans near the frontlines, not from the safety of headquarters farther away. He always carried his trademark pearl handled revolvers into battle with him and his troops readily rallied around his bravery and fearlessness.
The George S. Patton quote, "There is a time to take counsel of your fears, and there is a time to never listen to your fear," says it all and he came by this honestly. Patton was born into a military legacy. His father was a good friend to John Singleton Mosby, who was a famed leader of the cavalry in the Confederate Army.
He would listen for hours to Mosby's stories about battle and wanted to be a general someday himself. No one in the Patton family should have raised an eyebrow, given his pedigree.
Walter T. Patton, his great uncle died in Pickett's Charge during Gettysburg and two of his uncles served as colonels for the southern armies. George S. Patton, Sr. was Patton's great grandfather. A lawyer before the War Between the States, Patton served with the 22nd Virginia when war broke out and he died in the Battle of Opequon. Sadly, he had just been promoted to the rank of brigadier general by the Confederate Congress, but died of his wounds before it became official. Obviously, George Sr. would have been proud of his namesake, who fought war on his own terms, never giving into fear. Make sure to view all of George S. Patton's Quotes.
